Job Summary The Media Specialist supports the instructional program of Chateaux School by managing daily operations of the school library/media center and providing assistance to students and staff in accessing print, digital, and multimedia resources. The Media Specialist promotes literacy, responsible technology use, and a positive learning environment while maintaining library materials, technology resources, and electronic records in alignment with district procedures and Illinois school standards.
Education, Certification, and Licensure High School Diploma or GED required.
Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years of library, media, or technology-related experience providing assistance to students and adults, or equivalent work experience.
Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and school district applications.
Experience with or working knowledge of maintaining electronic student files in a school district setting.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to monitor student activity both electronically and visually.
Experience Minimum of two (2) years of successful classroom teaching experience preferred.
Experience teaching junior high or middle school students is desirable.
Experience using data-driven instruction to improve literacy achievement.
Familiarity with reading intervention programs, writing workshops, and formative assessments .
Experience integrating technology and multimedia tools into instruction (e.g., Google Classroom, Microsoft word and other data software's).
Essential Duties and Specific Responsibilities Maintain an inventory of all library materials: audio, electronics, visual and circulations
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Able to unpack and pack boxes of books, materials and equipment
Able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs to maintain materials on shelves
Able to rearrange the library by moving materials, equipment, seating areas and tables
Able to monitor students' activities electronically and visually
Support classroom instruction by preparing materials, resources, and technology as requested by teachers.
Assist students with basic technology use, digital tools, and district-approved applications.
Promote positive student behavior and reinforce school expectations while students are in the media center.
Maintain accurate electronic files related to student use, circulation, and media resources.
Report damaged, lost, or outdated materials to administration as needed.
Support basic troubleshooting of library-related technology and equipment.
Demonstrate reliability, flexibility, and professionalism in daily responsibilities.
Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming library/media environment.
Follow district policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.

Proficiency in basic technology skills, including Microsoft Office and district-approved software applications.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with FERPA and district policies.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping and inventory management.
Ability to supervise and monitor student behavior effectively and consistently.
Flexibility and adaptability to meet changing school and student needs.

Terms of Employment Salary: $20.29 - $22.14 per hour
Salary based on market comparisons as determined by Superintendent and Board of Education.
Salary based on CBA Union negotiated terms.
12-month work year.

Moderate noise levels typical of a school environment. Frequent use of computers, smartboards, and digital tools. May include supervision of students during lunch, recess, or hallway transitions. Occasional participation in after-school programs, meetings, and events.
Additional Requirements High school diploma (GED) or official transcripts (awarded degree)
Valid Illinois license, certifications, and endorsements
Three (3) current letters of recommendation
