Company Driver (Local)

The Company Driver is responsible for overseeing and leading Armstrong's full-cycle transportation initiatives, including, but not limited to packing, padding, inventory, loading, transporting, unloading, and unpacking. The Driver will operate a tractor-trailer (CDL A) or a straight truck (CDL B) to receive, store, and distribute equipment and goods. This requires handling of materials, as well as overseeing helpers in the packing, loading, and unloading of materials. Strong Customer Service skills are required.

Key responsibilities include operating trucks for local delivery, pick-up, and relocation of product and materials; protecting customer's items and property using pads, tape, and other material to prevent damage during loading, transit, and unloading; ensuring each item and its condition is accurately listed on the Shipment Inventory; directing packers and helpers so loading/unloading is safely accomplished within established productivity standards, as well as to the customer's satisfaction; complying with all paperwork requirements; maintaining clean and orderly equipment and performing routine vehicle maintenance work; providing outstanding customer service during delivery and pick-up operations; following all safety rules as required by DOT, OSHA, and company safety program; inspecting all materials received for order accuracy and quality; communicating effectively with operations staff about customer concerns and inventory issues; reporting vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles; reviewing work orders to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed; and all other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent experience, a valid Commercial Driver's license (CDL) - Class A, prior moving & storage or furniture delivery experience is a plus, a proven history of driving with a safe driving record, passing all company and DOT requirements, including roadside inspection reports, DOT medical screen, pre-qualification drug screen, and criminal background investigation, and the ability to drive and safely operate a straight truck and/or tractor trailer in accordance with United Van Lines, and DOT rules, policies, procedures, and standards.

Physical requirements include the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing; excellent physical stamina and the ability to regularly lift, carry, push, or pull up to 75 pounds; and sustained periods of lifting, standing, sitting, walking, bending, and kneeling.
