
Council Executive Communications Aide

Council Executive Communications Aide leads digital communications initiatives and projects. This role requires experience managing media communications and producing high‑level written content across digital platforms. The Aide demonstrates the ability to produce visual, written, and oral inputs into clear, concise, and impactful materials that effectively convey key themes and objectives. Strong writing skills and a background in digital communications are essential. This role also includes on‑ground constituent casework, problem‑solving, and representing the Councilmember in neighborhoods, as well as at community meetings and events. The Aide collaborates closely with City departments and manages daily projects and priorities. The schedule may require availability during evenings, weekends, and select holidays.
The Communications Aide is the working title for the position of Principal Council Executive Assistant.
Your Impact
Manage Office media, webpage, and social media platforms.
Engage residents to inform them of helpful resources the City provides.
Research technical information of various topics dealing with municipal government and develop clear summaries.
Represent the Office at community events/meetings. Accurately summarize and coordinate follow‑up requirements and develop draft letters and correspondence.
Draft written materials, including talking points, newsletter, media content, press releases, and more.
Provide constituent service and assistance to residents with questions, comments, or complaints, including obtaining assistance from City departments or referrals to other government agencies.
Speak publicly on behalf of the Councilmember and maintain an awareness of all community issues.
Plan and schedule tours of businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations.
Organize all preparation, execution, and post‑event efforts for community events.
Organize and staff Councilmember booth/table at City events and other organization events, including distribution of City resources materials.
Create certificates for recognizing residents, businesses, nonprofits, and other important community stakeholders for various reasons (e.g., anniversary, achievement, or milestone).
Create and develop an e‑newsletter, flyers for events, and graphics for social media.
Prepare and edit correspondence, reports, memos, and other documents.
Coordinate travel arrangements and itineraries for staff as needed.
Order office supplies and maintain inventory levels.
Assist in the development and implementation of office procedures.
Support the coordination and execution of events, projects, and meetings.
Maintain and update databases, contact lists, and mailing lists.
Conduct research and analysis on topics related to City policies, procedures, operational programs, agenda items, etc., and prepare oral and written reports of findings to individual members of the City Council.
Attend City business related meetings with and/or on behalf of individual City Council members as requested; assemble and distribute meeting follow‑up information as requested.
Exercise appropriate judgment in answering questions and releasing information and in analyzing and projecting consequences of decisions and/or recommendations.
Interact with the constituency, including responding and documenting constituent inquiries, case management, serves as first point of contact for all incoming electronic communications.
Best Fit
Bachelor’s degree in political science, history, communications, business, or related field.
Ability to understand local legislative and regulatory processes.
Experience managing multiple projects while meeting deadlines and staying organized.
Excellent interpersonal skills. Comfortable interacting with business leaders, government officials, and constituents.
Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
High level of personal drive and critical thinking.
Works well under pressure and able to work independently with a positive attitude.
Experience in event planning and managing lists/databases, Excel.
