Inventory Control Specialist
Responsible for accurate inventory accounting, including receiving, processing, recording, and distributing supplies and materials.
Essential Duties
1. Inventory Control and Warehouse Operations
Receive, inspect, and verify incoming shipments for accuracy, quantity, and quality.
Store parts, supplies, equipment, and uniform items in designated locations.
Issue parts, supplies, and equipment to authorized personnel.
Maintain accurate inventory records in the department's inventory management system.
Conduct routine cycle counts and assist with annual physical inventory.
Identify inventory discrepancies and report findings to supervisor.
Maintain established minimum and maximum stock levels.
Organize stock to ensure efficient access and proper rotation of materials.
Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe warehouse and storage environment.
Operate material handling equipment in accordance with safety procedures.
2. Purchasing and Order Processing
Review and process purchase requests in accordance with established procedures.
Obtain price quotes from approved vendors.
Prepare purchase documentation and submit for approval.
Track open orders and follow up with vendors to confirm delivery timelines.
Coordinate deliveries and arrange pickups as needed.
Verify invoices against purchase orders and receiving documentation.
Report billing discrepancies to supervisor for resolution.
3. Equipment and Supply Support
Assist with assembly and distribution of equipment and supplies.
Coordinate routine maintenance scheduling for assigned equipment as directed.
Prepare items for return, warranty, or repair processing.
Support turnout gear cleaning and basic equipment care as assigned.
Prepare materials and documentation for hose, ladder, and equipment testing activities.
4. Asset Accountability
Tag assets in accordance with county policy.
Update asset records to reflect assignment, transfer, or disposition.
Assist with physical verification of assets at fire stations and remote sites.
Prepare surplus property for disposal in accordance with policy.
Maintain documentation related to asset acquisition and disposal.
5. Administrative Support and Reporting
Maintain files and records related to inventory transactions.
Enter and retrieve data from computerized inventory and asset systems.
Compile inventory usage information for reporting purposes.
Assist with preparation of documentation for bid specifications as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
A. Education. High School diploma or equivalent.
B. Experience. One (1) year experience in ordering, storing, and issuing parts, materials and/or supplies.
C. Education/Experience substitution. In accordance with County Policy.
D. Licenses/Certifications. Valid driver's license. Must maintain a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record in accordance with County policy.
E. Other (e.g., post-offer medical exam, polygraph, background check, driver's license record, etc.). Must pass pre-employment background check and driving record check.

Inventory control principles and warehouse procedures.
Purchasing process and public sector procurement requirements.
Fire department apparatus, equipment, tools, supplies, and uniform components.
Asset management standards and accountability practices.

Occupational safety standard and safe material handling practice.
Computer system and inventory management software function.
Skilled in:
Organize and maintain inventory storage area.
Operate inventory management system and data entry application.
Prepare purchase documentation and track order status.
Reconcile inventory discrepancy and verify shipment accuracy.
Communicate with vendors and department personnel.
Prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Perform basic mathematical calculation and inventory reconciliation.
Maintain accurate record and file system.
Use hand tools and equipment related to inventory functions.
Operate forklift, pallet jack, or pallet lifters as needed.
Ability to:

Lift, move, and store material and equipment in safe manner.
