MBD is a dynamic global team which includes business development specialists, research analysts, brand, marketing and communications experts. By working collaboratively, our team shapes the firm’s client strategy, completes analysis of complex business issues, targets opportunities, develops compelling proposals and creates content and marketing campaigns that lead our digital presence. Role summary
This is a varied role requiring excellent teamworking and communication skills as well as the ability to build strong, trusted relationships with senior internal stakeholders and client contacts, and to work collaboratively with brand, marketing, communications, research and business development specialists across our global firm.
We are seeking a Senior Business Development Coordinator to help our strategic business development efforts for our US Dispute Resolution (DR) practices. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Business Development Manager for US DR and the broader team to support the business development activities across the 4 US offices where US DR lawyers. Namely, they will support identification of client issues, map out market trends and create an engaging program of client development activities to drive revenue in the US, coordinating with global teams.
The DR MBD team leads strategic positioning, visibility, and client service activities for the world’s preeminent Dispute Resolution practice. Our global litigation team is among the largest and best practices in the world, ranking Band 1 globally by Chambers & Partners and boasting 800 litigators across 29 offices worldwide.
This role will report into the Senior Business Development Manager for US DR, and will work closely with the other members of the US DR BD team.
With this context, the role holder will be responsible for working collaboratively as part of the Global Business Development team for the US DR practices to:
Understand the specific challenges and opportunities for the practices, support the Senior Manager and the broader team to develop and execute a focused marketing and business development strategy – the aims being to strengthen relationships with key internal stakeholders, to target new work and to build the global reputation of the firm
Support the creation of compelling credentials, capability statements, proposals, and pitches to respond to fast turn-around bids, strategic panels, or other opportunities to win work for litigations and investigations with a nexus to the US
Leverage marketing technology and tools to spot opportunities to develop existing clients and services, track key relationships, and measure the success of initiatives
Help to develop content and campaigns to increase engagement with key clients and enhance the personal brands of leading attorneys and the firm’s reputation for managing high-profile litigations and investigations with a nexus to the US
Support on events and relevant initiatives to enhance the profile of US DR’s offering and strengthen our relationships with key stakeholders
Support on directory submissions and individual awards nominations
Help manage the internal structure of the department, including but not limited to the SharePoint site, capability statements, credentials, and teams’ folders
Support on development of the department’s data including liaising with the CRM team and Executive Assistants to improve and develop processes to increase data sharing
Build trusted relationships with MBD colleagues to achieve a ‘one team’ global mindset
Be part of an agile and responsive bespoke service model based on mutual respect and appreciation of skillsets across the team
Contribute to continuous improvement in the firm’s approach to business development, including proactive sharing of knowledge and data to centralised tools
Maintain a strong understanding of how AI tools, including Gen AI products, can be used to support and where appropriate automate horizon scanning, research and other functions of the role. Over time, take responsibility for identifying, adopting and leveraging the firm's suite of Gen AI tools to deliver better MBD support, more efficiently
Key requirements (skills/experience)
Educated to college degree level; with 2-4 years of working in a professional business environment
Strong communication skills, with attention to detail in writing
Ability to work independently on own initiative, but also with strong teamworking skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritise actions and meet strict, often quickly evolving deadlines
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Suite software
Natural curiosity and propensity to learn; enthusiasm to grow into a rounded business development practitioner
Existing knowledge of the dispute resolution practices is not a pre-requisite, but an interest in it is important
Experience with GenerativeAI tools is a plus, but not required
For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in New York and California or reporting to someone in those states, Freshfields is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to the States of New York and California and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $90,000 to $110,000.
