
Public Affairs Volunteer

Planned Parenthood of Northern New England is looking for a part-time or full-time Public Affairs volunteer at our Portland Administration offices. The volunteer we are looking for will need to be available to make a minimum commitment of 10-15 hours a week, with hybrid in-person (Portland area) and virtual availability. Volunteers will undergo extensive training on how to speak with patients and supporters about Planned Parenthood’s advocacy work in the health center and community, as well as our organization’s role in advocacy for sexual and reproductive healthcare access. This is an ideal experience for students interested in women and gender studies or plans to have a career in non-profit agencies, politics, public affairs, government relations, public health, or community outreach and marketing.
Responsibilities
Assist with preparation and implementation of volunteer and outreach events, such as tabling at public events, crowd canvassing, action nights, etc
Learning and entering in data collected
Phone Banking
Policy advocacy at state and federal levels
Work with patients to collect and develop stories for advocacy projects
Qualifications
Passion for reproductive health and rights for all, including abortion and gender affirming care
Ability to problem solve
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Self‑motivated and able to work independently
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism as a representative of Planned Parenthood’s well‑known and widely‑trusted brand
Interest in reproductive health care, education, and women and gender studies issues
Ability to communicate with public about PPNNE health services, mission and goals
Previous organizing experience a plus, but not required
Occasional weekend and evening availability
Means to travel throughout Southern and Mid‑Coast Maine a plus, but not required
All potential applicants will need to pass a background check before being accepted in the program.
