Position Summary
San Diego State University is seeking a detail-oriented and creative Web Developer I to support and maintain websites for the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity. In this role, you’ll help ensure web content is accessible, user-friendly, and aligned with university standards while collaborating with campus partners to enhance digital communications and user experience.
Key Responsibilities
Website Development & Maintenance
Maintain and update OmniCMS-hosted websites, including content updates and site migrations.
Ensure websites meet accessibility, usability, and mobile responsiveness standards.
Manage site functionality, including redirects, calendars, and integrations.
Content & Digital Communications
Support newsletter and email production using Salesforce.
Collaborate with content creators to improve site structure, navigation, and user experience.
Ensure alignment with SDSU brand and web standards.
Accessibility, SEO & Optimization
Conduct accessibility reviews and implement improvements.
Support search engine optimization (SEO) strategies, Google Analytics and best practices.
Stay current on trends in UX, accessibility, and web design.
Partner with IT and campus stakeholders on web projects and enhancements.

Position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.

The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Diversity is responsible for the coordination and development of student services and building the inclusive excellence of SDSU's staff and faculty at San Diego State University. The Department of Communication Services/Digital Marketing and Creative Services develops, coordinates and executes communication efforts for the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity and its departments. Digital Marketing and Creative Services creates print, electronic and social media communications that supports the division’s mission and programs. The department also leads and supports more general student and family focused communications including internal and external communication, marketing, social media and other forms of digital communications, in collaboration with Strategic Communications and Public Affairs (Stratcomm).

Education and Experience
Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Relevant education and/or experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Key Qualifications
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
Foundational understanding of website structure, web development concepts, and general design principles.
Familiarity with web technologies, design tools, and/or programming languages used in website development and maintenance.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate both independently and within a team environment.
Creative problem-solving skills, adaptability, and willingness to learn new technologies.
Experience supporting or maintaining a website and working within content management systems (CMS), including OmniCMS is preferred.
Knowledge of HTML, CSS, web UX best practices, and web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.x and Section 508) is preferred.
Experience using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Lightroom) is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation
Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience, in alignment with the department’s budget and equity guidelines.
Initial step placement is not expected to exceed Step 1 ($5,787/month).
Salary step placement for internal applicants will follow the CSUEU Collective Bargaining Agreement.
CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,787–$8,430 per month (Step 1–Step 20).
Future increases, including step advancements, are subject to contract negotiations.

Los departamentos incluyen pero no están limitados a: Servicios profesionales; Centro de Programas de Oportunidades Educativas, Acceso y Éxito; Mercadotecnia Digital y Servicios Creativos; Consultoría & Servicios Psicológicos; Centros Comunitarios; Servicios Militares; Orientación, Transición y Participación Familiar; Proyectos de Salud del Estudiante; Dirección de Educación Residencial; Administración de Recursos Humanos; Servicio de Protección de Derechos al Alumno; Organización de Servicios Alcuentes por Discapacidad; División de Trabajo Social y Comunicaciones y Medios Intelectuales que coordina las actividades del Departamento de Comercio Veterinario y Marketing, así como sus programas relacionados con los Servicios de Inteligencia e Innovación y Tecnología; El departamento también dirige y apoya comunicaciones más generales centradas en los estudiantes y la familia, incluyendo comunicación interna y externa, marketing, redes sociales y otras formas de comunicación digital, en colaboración con Strategic Communications and Public Affairs (Stratcomm). Experiencia de soporte o manejo de múltiples prioridades en un ambiente guiado por plazos. Comprensión fundamental de la construcción del sitio Web, conceptos del desarrollo web, y principios de diseños generales.
