JOB SUMMARY
The Kidney Cancer Program (KCP) within the Simmons Cancer Center and the Division of Hematology/Oncology at UT Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) seeks an outstanding Scientific Research Writer to support its translational research and clinical mission.

KCP is a nationally recognized, high‑impact program that has helped translate discoveries from gene identification to FDA‑approved therapies. The program has received a Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) award from the National Cancer Institute and multiple regional recognitions for clinical and research excellence. KCP brings together over 30 physicians and more than 50 affiliated laboratories in a highly collaborative environment focused on improving outcomes for patients with kidney cancer.

Key Responsibilities

Draft and edit manuscripts, abstracts, and reviews

Lead and support grant writing

Prepare progress reports and other sponsor communications

Assist with pre- and post‑award documentation

Contribute to program communications , including web and social media content

Support preparation and coordination of material transfer and related research agreements

Collaborate closely with investigators to translate scientific concepts into clear, compelling written products

Education
Master's Degree in Biology or related field of biological science or

Experience
2 years related experience, including experience authoring research publications

Preferred

Education: Master’s or PhD in a biological, biomedical, or related field preferred

Demonstrated excellence in scientific and medical writing

Strong attention to detail and editorial precision

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Exceptional organizational and time‑management abilities

Ability to work independently while managing multiple deadlines

JOB DUTIES

Develop and maintain the scientific content of a comprehensive, web‑accessible laboratory research data archive for use by internal and third‑party research organizations.

Collaborate with PI's and other laboratory personnel to gather sufficient information for insertion into the research database.

Research and critically evaluate internal and external primary literature and biological databases, and compile relevant information to support the work of the subject laboratory.

Coordinate the acquisition and submission of research data to relevant third‑party databases.

Assist PI's and other researchers with grant submissions, and with preparation of papers for publication.

Maintain up to date knowledge of primary research subject matter through self‑study, attendance at training seminars, etc.

Perform other duties as assigned.
