Utility Worker Position

Watauga County Sanitation Department is accepting applications for the
Utility Worker Position. Under limited supervision performs intermediate
semiskilled work related to the collection and disposal of recyclables, solid
waste and trash. Employee performs duties on a rotating basis at the Transfer
Station. Incumbent assists with the operation of equipment on an as-needed
basis; performs household hazardous waste collections; and operates various
disposal systems. Employee assists in performing preventive maintenance on
machinery and equipment. Performs cleaning and area maintenance duties
such as parking lot and roadway debris removal, sweeping, shoveling, and ice
prevention around recycling facility, containers, and site attendant shelter to
maintain clean and safe convenience center. Any combination of training and
experience, including 1 to 2 months of manual labor experience which
provides the required knowledge and abilities. Must be reliable, be able to
communicate with the public and have a valid driver’s license. Weekend work
is required for this position. Salary Grade 1, $39,360.  County benefit
package includes health insurance, retirement, paid holidays, vacation and
