Operations & Driver Support Specialist
Transylvania County is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Operations & Driver Support Specialist to join our Transportation Division. This hybrid position plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our transit services by providing administrative support and serving as a backup van driver when needed.
Essential Functions
Administrative Support (Primary Duties):
Assist with daily scheduling, route updates, and driver communications.
Maintain accurate records, logs, and reports.
Support dispatch operations and respond to inquiries.
Help with filing, data entry, and general office tasks.
Monitor and update transportation software systems.
Driver Support (As Needed):
Serve as a substitute van driver during absences or emergencies.
Safely transport passengers following established routes and safety protocols.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
Communicate any vehicle or route issues to the transportation manager.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, equipment and office assistance techniques.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to operate data entry and personal computer equipment.
General knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing van operation.
Ability to understand, interpret and apply technical rules, directives and regulations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
Prior experience in transportation or administrative support preferred*
Education and Experience
Minimum Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent
Valid North Carolina driver's license
Required Licenses or Certifications:
Driver's License valid in the State of North Carolina.
Ability to pass background check with a clean driving record and drug screening.
Physical Demands: This position involves a combination of office and driving duties. Work regularly requires sitting, using hands for typing or handling documents, and speaking or hearing to communicate effectively. It may occasionally require standing, walking, or light lifting (up to 25 lbs). Visual acuity is needed for reading documents and operating a vehicle. The role also requires the ability to safely operate a van and perform routine vehicle checks. The employee must be able to respond to changing environments, including varied weather and traffic conditions while driving.
Work Environment: Work is primarily in an office setting with occasional driving responsibilities. Fast-paced and responsive to operational needs. The work schedule for this position is 2-3 hours a day, MondayFriday.
