Robotics and Mechanical Design Engineering Scientist

Responsibilities

Design, analyze and develop sonar
avigation/underwater robotics equipment using SolidWorks and SolidWorks Simulation.

Create drawings, assembly instructions, and other supporting documentation for systems.

Assist in the assembly and testing of equipment.

Participate in data collection exercises, data management, and analysis.

Support the installation and testing of equipment in field locations.

Other related functions as needed.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.

Three years of related/applied research and development experience.

Demonstrated ability to design, evaluate, and document complex systems using CAD programs.

Applicant must have a robotics background.

Applicant must have a demonstrated ability to follow design and testing standards.

US Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.

Highly organized, excellent attention to detail, and possess sound scientific judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in mechanical engineering preferred.

Three or more years of applicable development using SolidWorks and performing finite element analyses.

Familiarity with PDM document management system.

Experience with designing underwater systems and robotics systems; experience leading a team of engineers.

Experience with adhesives, molded parts, electronics packaging, seal design, cabling, machine/mechanism design, and other electro‑mechanical design.

Demonstrated knowledge in statics analysis, material analysis, thermal analysis, vibration, finite element analysis, corrosion, fluid dynamics, acoustics.

Hands‑on experience with hand tools, power tools, machining (mill, lathe, laser cutter, etc.). Familiarity with modern design practices and manufacturing processes including rapid prototyping.

Prior work experience in professional or research‑oriented development.

Prior military experience.

Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Salary
$104,000–$174,000+ / negotiable depending on qualifications.
