Summary job description
The inside upholsterer is responsible for applying leather or fabric covering to frames to match McKinley’s quality standards, using loose fiber stuffing, cotton and/or foam padding to form a smooth surface. Requires moderate lifting and strength to pull leather taut and neat on each job.
Work Responsibilities
• Read production tickets or work orders for details on each order and apply knowledge and experience to evaluate necessary materials needed for each individual order.
• Follow verbal and written instructions for building pieces.
• Keep notes on all styles built.
• Inspect materials (such as frames, poly, leather, fabric, etc.) as you work to get mistakes corrected before upholstering.
• Fit, install, and secure material on frames using hand tools, power tools and staple guns.
• Create poly parts for pieces while upholstering, as well as using precut poly parts.
• Apply poly and cotton for a smooth finish on seats, arms, wings, and IB, adjusting as needed for cushions to fit.
• Hand tuft and tie buttons as needed.
• Build custom furniture and new items on a regular basis.
• Work and make decisions independently.
• Keep a clean and safe work environment
PAY RATE: $24-30/HOUR, depending on experience
Qualifications
• At least 4 years of experience inside upholstery in a manufacturing setting.
• Good attention to detail and ability to work with hands.
• Team player, conscious of needs of other employees.
• Able to lift 75 pounds.
• Able to stand at least 10 hours a day.
