
Design Engineer

Our client is looking for a detail‑oriented Design Engineer to support the engineering and delivery of Building Automation System (BAS) and HVAC controls projects in the Richmond, VA area. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys translating project requirements into accurate, efficient, and constructible control system designs.
As a Design Engineer, you will work closely with Lead Engineers, Project Managers, and field teams to develop system designs that meet customer requirements, project specifications, and company standards. You will play a critical role in ensuring projects are properly engineered and ready for successful installation and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities include: Developing BAS designs, control drawings, points lists, and sequences of operation
Creating and maintaining project submittals, material lists, and technical documentation
Supporting system architecture, network layouts, and device selection
Reviewing project specifications and coordinating design details with internal teams
Assisting with engineering changes, RFIs, and as‑built documentation
Supporting commissioning and startup activities as needed
Qualifications: Experience in building automation and HVAC controls design or engineering
Strong understanding of HVAC systems, control strategies, and BAS components
Ability to read and interpret construction documents and specifications
Experience with major BAS platforms such as Niagara, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric, or Honeywell
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
