Responsibilities
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for an Instructor (Library Media Specialist) position in the New York State School for the Blind. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Develop and administer an integrated school library media program;

Develop lesson plans and provide instruction to students in accordance with NYS Standards;

Instruct students and staff in effective use of media, information, and technology literacy skills;

Evaluate, select, and procure print and digital resources and related equipment/materials;

Develop policies and procedures to ensure efficient operation, services and facility use for a 21st‑century school library media program;

Implement a results‑oriented information and technology literacy skills curriculum integrated with subject area curriculum through instructor partnerships;

Provide leadership and guidance for effectively integrating technologies with instruction to create 21st‑century learning opportunities;

Support instructors with research engines appropriate for our student population;

Provide support for our students and staff in locating materials necessary to complete research‑related activities.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree or higher, a valid NYS Teaching Certificate in School Media Specialist (Librarian) or Library Media Specialist, and the ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting of children.

Preferred Qualifications Special consideration will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:

NYS Teaching Certificate in Special Education;

Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI).

Conditions of Employment
This will be a permanent, unclassified, 10‑month appointment with the potential of working during the summer school session. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 am–3:00 pm. Candidates must maintain a valid NYS teaching certification in School Media Specialist (Librarian) or Library Media Specialist with active registration. Background checks, fingerprinting, and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List are required for employment.
