Sewing Machine Operator

SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Upholstery Manager, the Sewer will perform a variety of tasks using standard procedures, tools, equipment, and materials to produce sewn items that enable the delivery of upholstery products at the highest quality, on time, and in the safest, most efficient manner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Operate sewing machines, including double needle, zipper, and border machines.
2. Sew cushions, panels, covers, and other upholstery parts.
3. Install zippers and sew borders correctly.
4. Follow work orders and instructions to complete each job.
5. Check materials and finished pieces to make sure quality is good.
6. Keep the sewing machines clean and report any problems.
7. Work with the team to meet daily production goals.
8. Follow safety rules and keep the work area clean and organized.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to operate sewing machines; experience with double needle required. Experience with zipper and border machines is a plus.
• Ability to read and understand basic work orders and instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain quality standards.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment and meet daily goals.
• Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, and measuring).
• Ability to communicate with supervisors and team members regarding work, issues, or delays.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Able to lift up to 35 lbs.

EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent, work experience may be considered as well.
EXPERIENCE: 1+ years of sewing experience.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Most work is performed in a manufacturing environment with dust and noise consistent with an upholstery shop. Personal Protective Equipment provided.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing job duties, the position is mostly moderately sedentary with long periods of sitting at a machine. Walking to pick up materials and deliver completed work is necessary. Employees are required to use their hands to handle, feel, and manipulate fabric, and to guide it through machines. Employees will frequently lift or move objects up to 25 lbs. This position requires close, distance, and color vision, as well as the ability to adjust visual focus.
SUPERVISION: Position reports to the Production Manager (NC). Position does not regularly supervise other employees.
HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Thursday, 6:00 am to 4:30 pm, overtime is generally worked during the summer and may be required evenings and weekends.
