Job Title: Design DrafterPosition Overview
We are seeking a detail‑oriented Design Drafter to support the design and development of industrial equipment within a manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for creating and revising engineering drawings, developing accurate 3D models, and maintaining technical documentation to support production and engineering initiatives. The Design Drafter works closely with engineers and cross‑functional teams to ensure all designs are functional, manufacturable, and aligned with project and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Create, revise, and maintain 2D drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD and other CAD software
Develop detailed part, assembly, and layout drawings for mechanical systems and equipment
Interpret engineering specifications, sketches, and technical documents to produce accurate designs
Generate and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and related engineering documentation
Perform basic engineering calculations related to dimensions, tolerances, materials, and weights
Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to refine and improve designs
Support design revisions, updates, and product change initiatives
Ensure designs comply with quality standards, safety guidelines, and applicable regulations
Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement efforts
Required Skills & Experience
Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D) and experience with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks or Creo
Background in mechanical drafting, design, or engineering technology
Experience creating detailed drawings, assemblies, and 3D models
Ability to read, interpret, and apply blueprints and technical drawings
Exposure to manufacturing and industrial environments
Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Preferred Qualifications
Experience designing heavy equipment or industrial machinery
Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
Experience with BOM creation and ERP systems
Understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles
Associate’s degree or certification in Drafting, Design, or a related field

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chattanooga, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $27.64 - $45.35/hr.
