Product Design Engineer – Epiroc Industrial Tools and Attachments
As a Product Design Engineer, you will be an integral part of our R&D Engineering organization based in Milwaukie, Oregon. You’ll work with multidisciplinary cross‑functional teams and product development engineers to transform products through the New Product Design (NPD) lifecycle, focusing on delivering world‑class products for customers in the railroad maintenance field.
Location: Milwaukie, OR, US
Work Type: Onsite (this position will be based at our Milwaukie, OR facility; not eligible for immigration/work visa sponsorship)
Responsibilities
Develop and deliver market‑driven products in a fast‑paced collaborative environment that meets customer and manufacturing requirements.
Engineer mechanical components, subsystems, and assemblies from concept through design, analysis, prototyping, and validation testing.
Ensure designs meet technical, manufacturing, cost, and commercial requirements.
Work directly with production to provide assembly drawings, product details, and support for manufacturability.
Partner with manufacturing teams and suppliers on technical activities and design feasibility.
Collaborate with Quality to support FAIs, deviation approvals, quality audits, and CTQ definition.
Develop mechanical concepts that prioritize ergonomics and user interaction.
Participate in lab testing, manufacturing trials, and field testing; perform hands‑on work in the engineering test lab and shop floor.
Conduct DFMEA, linear tolerance analyses, and structured problem‑solving (8D, Shainin, 5‑Why).
Apply product development and project management best practices to maintain timelines and deliverables.
Identify potential intellectual property and support the creation of patents.
Create accurate and complete 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings with proper GD&T (Pro‑E preferred).
Knowledge and Education
BS in Mechanical Engineering with strong foundational engineering and machine design skills.
Minimum 5 years of experience improving cost, quality, and design of existing mechanical products.
Experience supporting production, including reviewing assembly methods and resolving build issues.
Proficiency with Pro‑E/Creo for 3D modeling and 2D drawings with GD&T.
Skills and Abilities
Strong collaboration skills working with manufacturing, suppliers, and quality functions.
Demonstrated ability to analyze data, solve complex problems, and defend technical decisions.
Hands‑on experience with mechanical testing, troubleshooting, and design verification.
Familiarity with intellectual property processes and contribution to patent development (preferred).
Salary Range: $90,000 – $100,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
