
Communications Intern

Job Summary The Communications Intern is responsible for assisting with the strategic and administrative tasks related to the Catholic Center’s communications and marketing with a large focus on outputting content created by the photography and design interns. The position reports to the Director of Evangelization and Communications and operates with some latitude for the use of independent judgment and initiative. The Communications Intern holds a commitment to the continuous improvement of service quality and the UCC’s mission. Position is for the 2026-2027 calendar year. Pay is $14/hour with no more than 10 hours of work/week.
Ministerial Character The Chaplain is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the University Catholic Center (UCC), which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring at the UCC. In order to fulfill his mission, the Chaplain employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Positions employed at the University Catholic Center help to extend the ministry of the Chaplain in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Chaplain in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.
Essential Job Duties As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the University Catholic Center in both your professional and personal life.
Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
Attend bimonthly meetings with direct supervisor & communications team
Develop a strategic monthly plan for engaging college students on campus through social media and various marketing platforms with communications intern & direct supervisor
Lead meeting with content creation team to cast vision, share timelines, and delegate roles 2x a semester
Obtain weekly progress reports from content creation team and send deadline reminders
Aid in investigating techniques for maximizing online engagement in newsletters, website, and media, and increasing viewership
Update TV atrium slides weekly
Send Community Newsletter email weekly
Manage TikTok account
Manage Hootsuite online posting/social media platform
Assist videography intern in video content creation for social media
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of the teachings of the Catholic Church.
Knowledge of effective practices of evangelization.
Skill in editing videos, photos, and design.
Skill in helping to develop students’ leadership abilities.
Skill in welcoming students and giving a joyful witness of Christian discipleship.
Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality.
Ability to work collaboratively with the pastoral team and student leaders

Ability to organize, prioritize, and utilize effective time management techniques.

Possess excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
Self-starter, good time management, creative, with ability to communicate in a professional manner

Minimum Qualifications Education and Trainings Current student at UT Austin for the 2026-2027 calendar year
Currently working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field (e.g., Marketing/Communications, Advertising or Public Relations)
Experience Understanding of the basic principles of public relations and/or marketing
Firm grasp of social media tools and platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc.
Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel).
Knowledge of website content management and graphic design
Language English (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing)
Catholic Requirement Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing
Licenses/Certifications Valid Texas driver’s license or state ID
Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.
Working Conditions Schedule flexibility: It is expected that this position will average 5-10 hours per week (including the summer).
Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.
Working on weekends and evenings may be required.
Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Roman Catholic prayer and liturgical celebrations.
All employees of the University Catholic Center are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Chaplain in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the Church.
The UCC is an at-will employer.
All buildings and vehicles owned by the UCC are tobacco-free
Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.
May be required to use personal vehicle to drive to off-site locations
Traveling outside the UCC to meetings and other events may be required, and travel may require overnight lodging.
Compensation This position’s compensation is hourly, on average 5-10 hours/week .
