The role is part of the In‑Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on‑orbit. As part of a hardworking team of engineering professionals, you will design, analyze, and test avionics enclosures for electronic components on various spacecraft. This opportunity reports to the Spacecraft Avionics section inside of the Blue National Security business unit. As part of a growing, hardworking, and curious team of design engineers, you’ll be deployed to programs that shape the future of Blue Origin.
As an Avionics Mechanical Design & Analysis Engineer, you own the design of avionics enclosure solutions for harsh environments to ensure high reliability of flight and mission‑critical systems. Working in cross‑disciplinary teams within a dynamic design environment, you will collaborate with electrical engineers to design PCB systems, support electronics development, conduct trade studies, and create the associated technical data packages. Your responsibilities include performing thermal and structural analyses, validating requirements through various methods, creating engineering detail and assembly drawings, and managing product configuration through its lifecycle. You will also support test planning and execution.

Responsibilities Design, analyze, and test avionics enclosures for electronic components on various spacecraft
Collaborate with electrical engineers to design PCB systems and support electronics development
Conduct trade studies and create associated technical data packages
Perform thermal and structural analyses, validate requirements through various methods
Create engineering detail and assembly drawings and manage product configuration through its lifecycle
Support test planning and execution
Qualifications Minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electro‑mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related technical subject area
2+ years of experience with design of electro‑mechanical avionics assemblies
Working knowledge of 3D CAD programs (Creo Pro/E preferred)
Experience with GD&T implementation and analysis (ASME Y14.5)
Experience designing ruggedized electronics enclosures or similar high‑performance hardware
Experience in PCBA integration (ECAD/MCAD), connector selection and manufacturing; EMI, thermal and structural protection of PCBA components
Experience in bonding, grounding, sealing and venting of electrical components and enclosures
Familiarity with PCB related IPC standards, SMC‑S‑016 and MIL‑STD‑810
Ability to be self‑directed and balance several tasks at one time
Ability to communicate analysis results effectively
Desired Thermal and Structural analysis of avionics enclosures and PCBA components
Experience with Steinberg or Engelmeier solder fatigue calculations
Experience with FEA tools (ANSYS preferred)
Experience with Windchill or other PLM systems
Familiarity with harness design per IPC‑A‑620

Compensation Range For CA applicants: $107,136.00 – $149,990.40
CO applicants: $98,208.00 – $137,491.20
WA applicants: $107,136.00 – $149,990.40
