Production Flow Expeditor
WLS Stamping Company, founded in Cleveland in 1944, specializes in short- and medium-run metal stamping, fabrication, and laser cutting, serving a wide range of industries.
Role Purpose
The Production Flow Expeditor is responsible for maximizing throughput by ensuring uninterrupted flow of materials and jobs through the stamping process. This role focuses on keeping constraint operations running, preventing downtime, and ensuring jobs are fully prepared before production begins.
Core Responsibilities
1. Constraint & Flow Management Monitor WIP and queue levels at each press, prioritizing bottleneck operations. Ensure the next job is always staged and ready. Identify and escalate any risk of production stoppage including missing material, tooling issues, labor gaps, or quality holds.
2. Pre-Production Readiness Ensure all jobs are fully ready before reaching the floor: correct material staged, tooling available, and required consumables in place. No job should begin in an unready state.
3. Material Flow Execution Supply materials to presses based on schedule priority. Remove finished goods, scrap, and WIP to maintain clear flow. Transport parts efficiently to downstream operations.
4. Real-Time Problem Identification Monitor for idle presses, blocked jobs, and excess queue buildup. Surface and escalate issues immediately.
5. Production Support Assist operators during high-demand periods and die changes when it improves flow. Perform basic visual quality checks.
6. Continuous Improvement Feedback Identify recurring delays and provide feedback on material shortages, tooling issues, and routing inaccuracies.
7. Safety & Organization Maintain 5S standards and ensure compliance with all safety procedures.
Performance Metrics
Press uptime (especially constraint machines) Percentage of jobs started with full readiness Reduction in idle time Flow time between operations Production interruptions prevented or resolved
Qualifications
Experience in manufacturing (stamping preferred) Strong understanding of production flow Ability to prioritize based on operational impact Forklift/tow motor experience preferred Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Fast-paced metal stamping environment with high noise levels, exposure to oil and scrap, and frequent movement throughout the shift.
