Shift Lead

The Shift Lead role at Spotless Brands is an operational support position designed to provide high performing team members with exposure to site operations and foundational leadership skills. This role is not a managerial position and does not carry decision-making authority or formal leadership responsibilities. The Shift Lead supports the Site Manager and/or Assistant Manager by ensuring effective execution of daily operations during assigned shifts. Responsibilities focus on maintaining operational standards, directing workflows, and supporting team productivity, safety, and customer service. As a key holder, the Shift Lead may assist with opening and closing procedures under the guidance of site leadership.

The role emphasizes execution, team support, and operational oversight without involvement in staffing decisions, disciplinary actions, or strategic decision-making.

Essential functions include supporting site leadership by executing assigned operational tasks; providing direction to team members during shifts as delegated by site management, ensuring adherence to established procedures and standards; escalating all staffing, customer service, or operational issues requiring judgement or discretion to the Site Manager or Assistant Manager; greeting and engaging customers with professionalism and enthusiasm, promoting membership programs and special promotions; demonstrating and maintaining in-depth knowledge of car wash packages, pricing, promotions, and processes; safely operating and training others on the use of car wash equipment and chemicals; monitoring and guiding vehicle entry and exit procedures to ensure safe, damage-free customer experiences; delegating team members to appropriate workstations and monitoring for efficiency and quality output; assisting in maintaining cleanliness and upkeep of the facility, including vacuum stations, equipment rooms, restrooms, and outdoor areas; performing routine cleaning and maintenance tasks including but not limited to pit cleaning, vacuum bag/station cleaning, tunnel upkeep, dumpster cleaning, and removal of debris, to ensure a safe, clean, and operational car wash environment; performing duties as assigned, including operational and cleaning tasks that support site, shop, or store upkeep; conducting quality control checks on both interior and exterior cleaning standards; assisting with opening and closing procedures strictly per company protocols; financial handling and site security are performed under management direction; serving as a keyholder; assisting in opening/closing procedures including securing the site; addressing customer issues or escalating concerns to management as needed; modeling and enforcing adherence to company policies, safety procedures and operating standards; and performing other duties as assigned to support site operations.

Education and experience preferred include a high school diploma or equivalent, previous leadership experience in a customer-facing or operational environment, being at least 16 years of age, a valid driver's license, meeting all required certification and regulatory compliance standards, and successfully passing a background check in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required include understanding of basic customer service principles and practices, familiarity with car wash packages, pricing, promotions, and process flow and willingness to learn, awareness of safety protocols and chemical handling procedures, knowledge of company policies, standard operating procedures, and cleanliness standards, ability to clearly give instructions, resolve conflicts, and engage with customers, ability to motivate team members and delegate responsibilities, problem solving and decision-making skills under pressure, time management and task prioritization during busy shifts, basic technical aptitude to operate car wash equipment, basic computer skills, including the ability to use email, navigate spreadsheets (e.g., MS Excel) and perform standard data entry tasks, ability to lead by example in a fast-paced environment, ability to monitor and evaluate team performance during shifts, ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a customer-first focus, ability to maintain composure and professionalism under stress, and physically able to stand, walk, and lift for extended periods, and work in outdoor conditions.

Physical requirements include ability to walk, stand, and move, often uneven, moving and/or wet surfaces through site; ability to stoop, crouch, bend frequently, and constantly using fingers, hands, and arms including occasional ascending and descending a ladder; ability to twist, carry, reach, push, and pull frequently; ability to lift and carry 50 pounds without assistance for work-related materials; ability to work outdoors and be efficient in all weather conditions; ability to work on your feet in a fast-paced, physically active environment; use of personal protective equipment (gloves, eyewear, etc..) as required; must be able to work in an environment with varying noise levels, including loud sounds from machinery, tools, or high-traffic areas; and flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends, as business needs or emergencies arise.
