
Communications Officer - Part Time - Sheriff

Position Overview
A Communications Officer performs specialized radio and communications work in high‑stress, trauma‑filled environments. The role involves monitoring force status, processing calls, and dispatching Police/Fire/EMS units.
Key Responsibilities
Operate emergency and non‑emergency communication systems, receive service requests, provide instructions to callers.
Operate CAD and other computer systems (TCIC/NCIC, Denton County systems, TLETS/NLETS), retrieving and inputting data.
Monitor state and national message requests, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws and department procedures.
Maintain logs of services requested and forward/maintain records.
Operate radio console, monitor traffic, alert units, and maintain FCC procedural compliance.
Dispatch, monitor, and track multiple agencies, ensuring timely and accurate unit deployment.
Maintain punctual attendance.
Perform any related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required.
Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) license within one year of appointment.
Must be 18 years or older.
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Valid driver’s license; eligible to obtain a Texas state license within 90 days.
Willing to work up to 29 hours per week (part‑time).
Preferred: TCOLE Communications Officer license.
