Associate Director, Scientific Communications
Overview
A leading biopharmaceutical organization focused on neuroscience is seeking an Associate Director, Scientific Communications to support the development and execution of scientific and medical materials across late-stage and pipeline programs. This role is integral to Medical Affairs, driving the creation of high-quality, compliant, and strategically aligned communications for healthcare professionals and internal stakeholders.
Position Summary
The Associate Director will lead the development of field medical and congress-related materials, translating complex scientific data into clear, compelling narratives. This individual will collaborate cross-functionally to ensure scientific accuracy, regulatory compliance, and alignment with broader medical and commercial strategies.
This is a highly collaborative role requiring strong scientific expertise, communication skills, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute field medical materials and congress deliverables aligned with therapeutic area strategies
Translate complex clinical and scientific data into clear, engaging content for diverse audiences
Partner with cross-functional teams (Medical Affairs, Clinical, Regulatory, Commercial) to ensure alignment and compliance
Lead Medical–Legal–Regulatory (MLR) review processes for scientific materials
Ensure audit readiness through proper documentation, taxonomy, and workflow adherence
Analyze engagement metrics to optimize scientific communications strategies
Manage external vendors and agency partners to deliver high-quality outputs on time and within budget
Support preparation for scientific congresses, workshops, and key external engagements
Build relationships with internal stakeholders and external experts
Contribute to strategic planning and Medical Affairs initiatives
Serve as a subject matter expert in scientific communications
Qualifications
Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, MD, or equivalent) in a scientific or healthcare-related field
5+ years of experience in scientific communications within biotech/pharma or a medical communications agency
Proven experience developing scientific materials for healthcare professional engagement and congress presentations
Strong understanding of MLR processes and compliance frameworks
Experience with content management systems (e.g., Veeva Vault) preferred
Demonstrated ability to manage vendors and cross-functional projects
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-complexity environment
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build trust
Compensation
$170,000 - $215,000 (Depending on Experience)
