We are seeking a meticulous Legal Proofreader with at least five years of law firm experience to support high‑stakes legal documentation. This role is essential for ensuring the accuracy of complex filings, financial proofs, and transcripts. The ideal candidate is a “night owl” professional who thrives in a collaborative, fast‑paced production environment and possesses deep expertise in legal citation and redlining.
About the Role
Comprehensive Review: Perform “cold” and “full” reads of handwritten, word‑processed, or printed documents against masters to ensure flawless transcription, grammar, and sense.
Responsibilities
Technical Proofing: Conduct specialized checks for financial printer proofs, defined terms, and cross‑references.
Document Mark‑up: Execute manual redlining, blacklining, and cumulative blacklining.
Digital Integration: Use Adobe annotating tools to mark PDFs and create digital mark‑ups using E‑copy.
Multi‑Media Support: Proofread audio and video transcriptions for accuracy.
Workflow Coordination: Monitor incoming email requests and maintain constant communication with the Workflow Coordinator and requestors to resolve queries.
Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of dedicated proofreading experience within a law firm environment.
Education: Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Flexibility: Ability to cover alternative shifts when necessary to support team objectives.
Required Skills
Legal Expertise: Proficiency in Black’s Law Dictionary, citation books, and current Bluebook formatting guidelines.
Industry Standards: Thorough knowledge of professional proofreading procedures and symbols.
Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio) and Adobe Acrobat.
Soft Skills: Strong customer service orientation, a collaborative team‑player mentality, and extreme resourcefulness under tight deadlines.
Pay range and compensation package
Compensation: Up to $77,000
