Job Purpose
We’re seeking a dynamic Head of Content Acquisitions with a deep enthusiasm for sourcing, negotiating and analyzing licensed programming. They will lead the evaluation of available series for both upstream and finished tape acquisition, and will guide a productive team to assess content inventory, close smart deals, grow industry relationships, and stay current in market trends to ensure BritBox and other DTC service offerings remain distinctive and compelling.

With a love of British content and a strong grasp of streaming economics and performance metrics, the person in this role will think strategically about how licensed content supports both our current subscriber base and future growth. Clear communication, collaboration, agility, attention to detail and commercial rigor are essential. This position sits within the Programming organization and shapes the what, why, and how of the DTC group’s content strategy through best-in-class licensing partnerships.

Responsibilities

Negotiate licensing deals that champion our audience-first approach, including high-profile co-production and commissioning agreements from script and/or pitch stage

Drive the Greenlight process for internal governance and project approvals for upstream investments

Partner with senior leadership to manage content budgets

Build and maintain strong relationships with studios, distributors, and producers

Analyze content performance to inform acquisition, renewal, and windowing decisions

Oversee deal flow, inventory management, and competitive tracking

Communicate key deal terms clearly to internal stakeholders

Collaborate with Legal to finalize contracts timely and ensure accurate entry and interpretation of rights into the content rights management system

Dive deep into performance data and industry insights to prepare executive-level reports; make bold, evidence-based decisions that deliver long-term ROI

Redefine what’s possible in acquisitions; challenge the team towards new deal models, unique partnerships, and rights strategies that set new standards

Lead a productive team with authenticity, self-awareness, and kindness

Identify and evaluate acquisition opportunities across scripted and unscripted series

Knowledge and Experience

Proven track record negotiating complex licensing agreements

Experience in content licensing within the television and/or streaming industry, including early-stage negotiations

Capacity to execute the details whilst envisioning the bigger picture

In-depth knowledge of the streaming landscape, particularly in the US and Canada

Strong industry relationships with distributors and studios

Excellent business, financial, and analytical skills with deep knowledge of programming budgets

Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Collaborative leadership style with experience managing teams

Passion for television and film content, particularly British programming

Bachelor’s degree required

Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite, and Airtable is essential

Flexibility to occasionally work outside standard US working hours, along with several work trips throughout the year

Salary
This role offers a base salary of $180-200K base salary plus competitive benefits and bonus potential.
