Job Title: Distribution Design Engineering I
Job Description
We are seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will work under the supervision of a technical lead to develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4 kV through 138 kV. Your work will primarily involve programmatic tasks such as managing overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and processing inspection reports. The position requires compliance with safety requirements and quality design expectations.
Responsibilities
Develop design and construction work packages for distribution systems.
Ensure compliance with safety and design quality expectations.
Travel to sites for inspections and perform office‑based engineering design work.
Conduct engineering calculations including structural analysis, conductor sag and tension specifications, and voltage drop and flicker calculations.
Create permitting documents for various authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ).
Provide engineering support during construction and conduct post‑construction reviews.
Perform root cause analysis of outages and provide mitigation using engineering principles.
Develop work packages for overhead, underground, and street light projects using GIS and WMS systems.
Coordinate field engineering design requirements and resolve conflicting utilities.
Develop design packages for complex urban cable/conduit projects, and manage permits, easements, and ROW applications.
Design mainline vault medium voltage switchgear, network systems, and distribution system protection and coordination.
Essential Skills
Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline.
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
0–1 year(s) of experience.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience using CAD tools, MicroStation, and/or GIS.
Familiarity with NESC and design standards.
Work Environment
This position is primarily office‑based with occasional fieldwork required. Candidates will receive training in customer engineering and construction standards and will gain experience in a diverse range of field engineering design requirements.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract-to-Hire position based out of Raleigh, NC.
Pay and Benefits
Pay range: $29.81 – $29.81 /hr.
