About The Role
DoorDash is building the world’s most reliable on‑demand logistics engine for delivery. We are growing rapidly and expanding Engineering offices around the world. We need Staff Backend Engineers to build and maintain large‑scale, 24/7 global infrastructure that powers DoorDash’s three‑side marketplace of consumers, merchants and dashers. This is a hybrid role with some in‑office time and reports to an Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities
Build and maintain large‑scale, 24/7 global infrastructure systems that support DoorDash’s marketplace.
Work on both Product and Product Platform teams, solving key business problems with elegant technical solutions.
Operate backend services and architecture that support all product functionality, consider the big picture, collaborate cross‑functionally and evaluate trade‑offs to maximize business impact.
Run cross‑functional projects end to end, mentor junior to mid‑level peers and influence technical roadmaps.

Define the backend architecture and tech stack for a product area.
Improve performance, reliability, scalability and security for backend systems.
Be involved in transitioning our monolithic codebase to a microservice‑based architecture.
Disrupt logistics by tackling bleeding‑edge technical problems.
We're Excited About You Because You Have…
B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science or equivalent.
8+ years of industry experience.
Prior experience working with backend tech stacks.
Ability to analyze and improve efficiency, scalability and stability of system resources.
Experience with service‑oriented architecture, writing REST APIs, unit testing and architectural design.
Understanding of modern web stacks and architecture (HTTP, REST).
Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases and other technologies (e.g. Postgres, Redis, Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ).
Compensation
Base salary is localized to the employee’s work location. Pay ranges (for reference)
I4: $130,600—$192,000 USD
I5: $159,800—$235,000 USD
I6: $193,800—$285,000 USD
