Are you an MHS student interested in journalism, multimedia communications, creative writing, graphic design or social media content creation and management? If so, you may be the right fit for the Minnetonka Schools Communication Department's Writing and Social Media Internship Program. Through this program, interns learn how to use their skills to support District communication to students, families and community members.
Position Description
The Minnetonka Schools Communications Department is recruiting interns to write feature stories and social media posts, assist with updating the District's website, update annual publications and provide support for a variety of other projects. This paid position is a great opportunity to build a portfolio of professional work, get experience publishing content in traditional print publications, online and through social media and help tell the amazing stories happening in the school district.
Structure
5-10 hours/week
Flexible schedule — split your time between our office at the District Service Center after school and have an opportunity to work remotely over the weekend
Reports to the Communications Specialist and the Creative Director in the Minnetonka Schools Communications Department
Job Responsibilities
Gather story ideas, take/collect photos and write/develop feature stories
Interview teachers, staff, students and community members
Work with staff to generate copy for the District website, social media pages, and print publications
Fact check, proofread, format and edit copy
Work on a variety of graphic design projects for print and social media utilizing both Canva and Adobe Creative Suite
Assist with Google Slides presentation creation for recognition programs
Assist with basic website edits (spelling, broken links, accessibility, search engine optimization)
Perform other duties, as needed
Required Skills/Qualifications
Must be a current Minnetonka High School student
Excellent writing, editing and organizational skills
Self-starter who will contribute ideas
Dependable, mature and self-directed
Must have the ability to work independently on projects while meeting deadlines
Must be comfortable approaching and interviewing students, teachers, staff and community members
Additional Preferred Skills
Familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and others)
Graphic Design skills or familiarity with Canva, Google Suite and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Photoshop)
Photography skills
Web editing or HTML skills
