Your role in helping us shape the future
This is a great opportunity for an early‑career journalist who wants a range of experiences at a national digital news outlet. You will learn about our unique and highly respected brand of journalism; the tools and strategies that power a major media brand on the cutting edge of the information age; effective headline writing that maximizes SEO; and how to produce and illustrate articles in our content management system.
Key Responsibilities
Write articles for certain “Best” sections.
Conceive of and execute newsletter items.
Perform fact checking and copy editing.
Assist with launches, such as the Best Countries launch or the Best States launch, if they occur during your tenure.
Research topics, interviewees, dates and other elements of newsletter content.
Assist with article production through our content management system (CMS).
Work closely with our data team to strengthen stories and potentially create data visualizations to enhance that work.
Create and post videos and other content for social media posts.
Actively and enthusiastically participate in trainings and team activities.
Assist with research or administrative tasks as needed.
Minimum Requirements
Eligible candidates must be one of the following:
Part‑time or full‑time students who have completed 48+ credit hours (rising juniors/seniors and graduate students) and are enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university.
Part‑time or full‑time students enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited college or university.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, professionalism, and maturity in the workplace.
Effective communicator in both written and spoken English.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency in the use of MS Office Suite and Google Docs.
3.0 GPA or above preferred.
Internship Details
10 weeks; starting on Monday, June 1, 2026 through Friday, August 7, 2026.
Interns are expected to work 37.5 hours per week, Monday‑Friday.
All candidates must be able to work a hybrid in‑office work schedule from our Washington, DC office.
Internship pays $17.50 per hour.
Interns will be paired with a buddy (mentor) in their office location for the duration of the internship.
