Senior Audio Visual (AV) Technician (New York City)
Shopify, New York, NY, United States
About the Role
Shopify runs on real spaces where merchants, employees, and communities come together — and someone needs to make sure the tech in those rooms actually works. This role owns every AV system across our two New York City locations: the office at 85 10th Ave and the community events space at 131 Greene. You'll keep meeting rooms, livestream setups, event spaces, and experimental facilities running without a hitch, and you'll build new systems when the old ones can't keep up. This matters right now because Shopify ships fast, launches products constantly, and hosts events that reach thousands of people — none of that happens if the AV falls apart. If you want to be the person who makes sure the signal is always live and the room always works, this is your job.
Key Responsibilities
Own and operate all AV systems across meeting rooms, event spaces, livestream studios, and collaboration facilities at both NYC locations.
Serve as the go-to technical contact for everything AV at 85 10th Ave and 131 Greene St.
Run AV and livestreaming for product launches, merchant pop-ups, community talks, town halls, and company events — internal and external, including on-site support for larger events such as Summit that may require working in locations outside of the New York Port.
Perform routine hardware checks, respond to support requests fast, and train teams so they can use systems without hand-holding.
Keep firmware, software, and configurations current with regular updates and preventive maintenance.
Evaluate system performance and usability on a recurring basis, then ship improvements based on real feedback and usage trends.
Find manual processes that waste time and automate them.
Plan and execute equipment retrofits — scope the work, coordinate with local integrators, and commission new gear.
Write clear, useful documentation so teams can troubleshoot and operate AV systems on their own.
Support Network, Security, and Video teams when they need an extra set of hands.
Work on-site in New York City 4–5 days per week — this role lives in the physical environment.
Qualifications
Deep working knowledge of Q-Sys, Dante, AVoIP, digital signage platforms, and Avixa standards.
Strong understanding of AV signal flows and how AV systems behave on enterprise networks.
Proven experience running livestreams and webcasts using RTMP, NDI, and SRT protocols.
Solid grasp of network protocols, services, and standards — you can deploy AV on a network and troubleshoot it when something breaks.
Comfortable using Google Workspace and similar tools for documentation, collaboration, and day-to-day work.
Willing to travel to other Shopify spaces in North America and internationally roughly 10% of the time.
Able to work effectively both on-site and remotely when the situation calls for it.
Use AI tools as a natural part of how you work, not as an afterthought.
Nice to Have
Experience with makerspace equipment, robotics, or experimental AV setups.
Background supporting high-profile live events or product launches at scale.
Familiarity with building internal tools or scripts to automate AV workflows.
Experience working with external integrators to design and install new AV infrastructure from scratch.
Compensation and Benefits
The estimated compensation range for this role is $86,500 to $150,900 which includes salary and equity. Pay is based on several factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
Depending on the position offered, other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, 401K plan, and other benefits.
