Inpatient Financial Counseling Specialist – Onsite at Ballad – Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, TN.
This position offers a competitive hourly rate of $18.65 to $19.90, based on experience. The role includes bonus incentives, paid certifications, tuition reimbursement, and comprehensive benefits.
Responsibilities
Assess patient liabilities, including copays, deductibles, coinsurance, and balances after financial assistance.
Conduct face‑to‑face benefit education and validation for inpatient, observation, and outpatient services.
Verify patient insurance and financial information to determine liability and submit authorizations.
Perform pre‑registration and registration tasks, ensuring collection of patient financial liability at the time of service or prior.
Reconcile missed collection opportunities and follow up to improve processes, making at least three attempts each day to visit a patient’s room.
Document all accounts with patient liability daily and make follow‑up phone calls for patients unable to pay.
Send post‑discharge letters detailing estimated liability and payment options.
Assist with sign‑in forms such as consent to treat, observation notices, and Medicare messages.
Support eligibility specialists in verifying insurance, Medicaid, and charity processing.
Run daily census to identify patients with potential eligibility.
Help organize outpatient orders related to future and current dates of service via revenue cycle systems.
Experience We Love
1+ year of customer service experience.
Demonstrated curiosity and openness to innovation, including exploration of AI to improve patient and client experiences.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED (required).
CRCR (Certified Revenue Cycle Representative) certification within six months of hire (company paid).
