Responsibilities
Dispatch Crews to Wildfires, Smoke Complaints and other Incidents
– Operates a computer, radio and telephone to transmit, receive and store information used to dispatch fire crews, supervisory personnel, aircraft and law enforcement personnel. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of personnel and equipment status. Trigger 209s as needed and enter information. Coordinate with other state, federal and local agencies and area cooperators. Inform supervisors and center leadership of wildfire status. Use maps and software (FMIS, ArcGIS, Spider Tracks, Mapquest, etc.) to provide incident locations. Maintain knowledge of local terrain and landmarks.
Burn Authorizations, On-Site Inspections, Compliance Checks, and Landowner Assistance
– Transmit/receive information to approve or deny burn authorizations across five counties. Update maps with new authorizations. Maintain landowner and burner contact information. Advise landowners of burning laws and weather. Communicate with Forest Rangers and supervision to conduct on-site inspections and compliance checks. Track landowner assistance.
Administrative Functions
– Maintain paper and electronic files, records and reports. Use computer programs, copiers, scanners and fax machines to perform duties. Respond to electronic mail, prepare reports, and assist supervision. Reconcile vehicle logs. Maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
Active Communications Center Member
– Handle incoming calls and relay information to supervisors, crews, agencies and the public. Maintain current contact information for fire departments and partners.
Fire Weather Forecasts
– Gather and relay daily fire weather information and predictions to crews and landowners. Act as a weather observer and report unusual weather activity.
Other
– Perform related work as assigned and complete all training requirements for the position within the designated period.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma or its equivalent and one (1) year of experience in radio-teletype operations, sworn law enforcement, dispatching, forestry, firefighting or other public contact work.
College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for the required experience.
Note: All positions within this class require possession of a valid driver license.

Work shift on a rotating basis. On-call duties may apply.
