Hours: 9 months, 6.5 hours/day
Grade: 13, $15.44/hour

Purpose Statement
The job of Library Media Technician is to provide support to the instructional program by maintaining the library collection, identifying age‑appropriate resources for students and teachers, selecting items for classroom instruction, and performing clerical functions related to collection, processing, circulation, maintenance, and inventory of library materials and/or textbooks.
Essential Functions
Assist teachers, students, staff and administrators in identifying resource materials for classroom and/or assignment use.
Evaluate books and periodicals for retention within the collection, repairing damaged items and recommending retirement to ensure availability.
Maintain materials inventory, including library books, hardware/software, media equipment, to provide an up‑to‑date reference and ensure availability.
Monitor student activities to maintain a safe learning environment and participate in unit meetings, in‑service training and workshops.
Perform circulation activities: check‑in/out, prepare circulation counts, overdue lists, dispose of inappropriate or damaged items to control use, location, and availability.
Process new student library cards, notices of missing/damaged/overdue materials to provide access and secure reimbursement for losses.
Process books, periodicals, software, and media (e.g., logging into master files, bar‑coding, shelving, producing required reports and cataloging) to provide students and staff with required materials.
Repair books and materials to ensure availability and respond to inquiries from students, staff, and parents regarding availability, location, and status of fines.
Other Functions
Order supplies and equipment to ensure availability as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Skills are required to perform multiple tasks and may need upgrading to meet changing conditions. Competencies include operating standard office equipment and software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records.
Knowledge is required for basic math (fractions, percents, ratios), reading manuals, writing documents in prescribed formats, presenting information, and understanding complex written and oral instructions. Competencies include library practices and computer/Internet operations.
Abilities include scheduling activities and meetings, gathering and collating data, using job‑related equipment, working with diverse individuals, solving problems and creating action plans, and establishing effective working relationships.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include working under direct supervision with standardized routines, leading, guiding, coordinating others, and utilizing resources from other work units when required.
Work Environment
Physical demands include occasional lifting, carrying and pushing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. The job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing, with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness in a clean atmosphere.
Experience
Job‑related experience is desired.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Clearances
Criminal Background Clearance.
Valid Arizona DPS Level I IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (https://www.azdps.gov/services/public/fingerprint).
