Position Details
Position: Patient Access Representative; Facility: Sanford S Univ Med Ctr; Location: Fargo, ND; Shift: 8‑Hour Day Shifts (7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.); Full‑time; Weekly Hours: 40; Salary Range: $16.25–$23.00.
Job Summary
As a Patient Access Representative, you will provide extraordinary customer service to patients with every interaction. You will be the first point of contact, creating a welcoming and safe environment by phone or in the clinic.
Responsibilities
Greet patients and verify demographics.
Create, scan, and route documents or electronic forms.
Explain documentation and capture required signatures.
Establish and assign financial responsibility and assist with arrangements while adhering to policies.
Collect co‑payments, pre‑payments, and payments on account balances.
Address and resolve registration errors or denied insurance claims through the registration work queue.
Coordinate and schedule appointments with nursing team and providers to meet patient needs.
Obtain and coordinate referrals, conduct pre‑authorization.
Arrange interpreter services.
Check patients in and out.
Operate multi‑line phone.
Manage recall and waitlists, resolve work queue issues, and serve as switchboard operator calling codes and paging providers.
Prepare and coordinate charts, organize provider documents.
Initiate and collaborate on patient financial assistance.
Track patient visits and manage health information on patient accounts.
Compile, distribute, administer, and score assessments.
Coordinate tele‑med appointments and send reminder calls for appointments.
Assist with hospital admission.
Perform office duties such as making copies or sending faxes.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
Post‑secondary education helpful.
At least one year of work experience, preferably in a medical office setting.
Customer service skills essential; six months of customer service experience desired.
Medical terminology helpful.
Basic Life Support (BLS) may be required for certain locations or settings.
