Description
Leidos is seeking a Communications Manager in Huntsville, Alabama to develop and deliver broad-spectrum communications plans for three critical Defense Sector Business Areas: Defense Sensors, Indirect Fires, and Kinetic Effects. This position works closely with Business Area leaders and subject matter experts to gather content, prepare for upcoming announcements, and execute communications tactics that highlight how Leidos delivers smarter capabilities and gives the warfighter decisive advantage across every domain.
Primary Responsibilities
Internal & External Communications
Develop and deliver communications that support Defense Sensors, Indirect Fires, and Kinetic Effects priorities, initiatives, and business objectives.
Create content for internal and external channels, including press releases, media pitches, intranet articles, presentations, and social media.
Keep teams informed and aligned on priorities and results.
Work with sector and corporate media relations to pitch stories, respond to media inquiries, and support public statements.
Technical & Mission Storytelling
Translate complex concepts such as sensing technologies, defense capabilities, and counter‑kinetic solutions into accessible, mission‑relevant narratives.
Collaborate with subject matter experts to gather information for developing accurate, compelling content distributed through selected outlets.
Campaign & Event Support
Support communications planning and execution for key initiatives, technology demonstrations, and industry events related to Defense Sensors, Indirect Fires, and Kinetic Effects.
Develop messaging and collateral for trade shows, customer engagements, and internal forums.
Represent Leidos at industry events as needed (limited travel).
Collaboration & Alignment
Partner closely with the Defense Communications team to ensure alignment with sector and enterprise messaging while coordinating with corporate’s growth and communications & marketing teams to support integrated campaigns.
Work with colleagues to follow detailed approval processes across Business Areas, Leidos, and customers ahead of public announcements.
Ensure consistency with Leidos brand standards and communications best practices.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or related field and 4+ years of professional communications experience (internal, corporate, or marketing). Additional years of experience will be considered in lieu of degree requirements.
Strong writing and editing skills, with mastery of AP style.
Ability to learn complex technical and programmatic information and then translate it into compelling narratives.
Experience in creating content for digital platforms (e.g., intranet, web, social, presentations, email).
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships across teams and with customers.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and collaboration platforms (Teams, SharePoint).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting Department of War programs.
Familiarity with defense sensors, indirect fires, and/or kinetic effects programs.
Experience using AI tools to improve content development or workflow efficiency.
Eligibility for a U.S. government security clearance.
Pay Range
$65,650.00 – $118,675.00. Pay range is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation.
