Job Description
Position:
Language Arts/Literature Teacher
Grades:
6–8
Scope
The Classroom Teacher will be the spiritual leader in the classroom by modeling prayer and love toward students in a Christ‑like manner. He/she will effectively plan and execute lessons with appropriate strategies for student mastery of content. The teacher will recognize diverse learning styles and implement motivating and engaging learning strategies to meet the needs of all learners. This method of teaching will contribute to students’ development as mature, able, and responsible Christian men and women to the praise and glory of God. The teacher will monitor student learning in an encouraging classroom environment and will engage in professional development and collaborative opportunities for growth in practice.
Qualifications
The candidate shall possess characteristics that reflect:
A strong, clear Christian testimony with a mature and godly spirit
A daily example of Christian virtue in and out of school
Commitment to faithful attendance and support of a church whose beliefs align with the Statement of Faith for Christian Academy
Agreement that The Bible is the final authority concerning truth, morality, and conduct
The ideal candidate shall possess the following:
Bachelor’s degree required
Current state teaching certificate/license
At least 24 semester hours in the subject taught for the major part of the day
At least 12 semester hours in the subject taught for the less-than-major part of the day
At least 12 hours in professional education coursework
Certification guidelines to obtain and maintain active ACSI teacher certification
Accountabilities / Responsibilities
Intentionally integrates Biblical values and morals
Understands and applies the Matthew 18 principle with students, parents, peers, and administration
Assesses students' spiritual growth and leads them in spiritual development
Leads students in daily prayer and devotions
Models a consistent relationship with Jesus Christ
Instructional Planning & Preparation
Demonstrates knowledge of content and pedagogy
Designs lessons with clear, focused, and measurable objectives
Plans include deliberate skill development in higher-order thinking
Plans include integration of technology to enhance learning and mastery of content
Instructional Delivery
Demonstrates Biblical integration and Christian worldview
Establishes learning expectations with well-defined openings
Guides students to apply learning to real-world contexts
Uses a variety of strategies to introduce, explain, and reinforce concepts
Employs diverse instructional aids to reach the whole child—spiritual, intellectual, physical, social, and emotional
Engages students with questioning techniques that foster critical thinking
Assessment
Plans pre-assessments, formative, and summative assessments aligned to objectives
Facilities feedback through self-assessment
Identifies students needing additional or alternative instruction and adapts accordingly
Uses assessment data to plan instruction
Creates a respectful, engaging learning environment and encourages student motivation
Encourages spiritual growth and opportunities for prayer and devotions
Leads students to develop a Christian mind and lifestyle
Manages student behavior with clear rules and routines
Maintains an organized, welcoming physical space conducive to learning
Professionalism and Communication
Communicates clearly and uses proper grammar and spelling
Represents the school professionally
Maintains timely and accurate student records/grades; submits weekly lesson plans
Communicates with families about progress and responds to concerns timely
Maintains a teachable spirit and assumes responsibility for actions
Maintains confidentiality and supports school success as a team effort
Professional Development
Seeks opportunities for professional development to enhance content knowledge and pedagogy
Maintains a professional growth plan demonstrating progress
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds
