Position Overview
The Women’s Side Monitor reports to the Shelter Director and Women’s Case Manager and is responsible for security of premises and carrying out administrative duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
Assist Shelter Director and Shelter Case Managers with overall Shelter Program functions.
Answer and forward all telephone calls.
Greet all visitors, staff, corps members, volunteers, and general public in a friendly and professional manner.
Direct all social service clients to appropriate staff person and facility, and guide donations to the ARC.
Maintain a guest & staff log.
Maintain client confidentiality.
Process clients for Emergency Shelter overnight stay, including entering client information and services provided into WellSky database and intake for guest showers.
Monitor overnight clients, including seeking emergency medical attention, waking them up in the morning, supervising client room clean‑out, and dismissing clients to meals.
Help maintain a positive and communal living environment between clients.
Make hourly rounds of building for security (fire, theft, etc.).
Wash overnight client laundry and linens from overnight stays.
Secure shelter for the duration of the evening (locks rear doors, turns off lights, etc.).
Transport program clients to various meetings, appointments, and other Corps or local events.
Maintain neat and organized clothing closet.
Perform custodial duties as necessary and/or required.
Organize and maintain neat and clean copier/fax room; maintain fully stocked paper supply.
Monitor security cameras.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Shelter Director and/or Corps Officer and/or Corps Assistant Officer.
Qualifications
Previous shelter work experience preferred.
Previous experience working with diverse populations.
Ability to empathize, communicate, and work with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an open, welcoming, and helpful presence and attitude with all people.
Ability to speak and write the English language at a professional level.
Computer experience and working knowledge of modern office procedures and equipment.
Knowledge of Salvation Army practices, policies, and organization resources.
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment and be capable of multitasking.
Must be punctual, organized, reliable, honest, and responsible.
Ability to pass a background check.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration
Must possess a valid California Class C Driver’s License.
Must be 21 years or older.
Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training.
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.
Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects.
Ability to reach overhead.
Ability to operate a telephone.
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. for administrative positions.
Ability to operate a computer.
Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information.
Ability to operate basic office equipment and tools (PC, fax machine, telephone, calculator, copier, printer).
