Job Description

Position Summary

Provides leadership and supervision of maintenance crews while performing daily activities to maintain contracted assets. Responsible for maintenance, servicing and repairs of roads and other infrastructure assets, per contract standards and as directed by the supervisor. This includes maintaining assets such as roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, vegetation, etc.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

Trains, directs and coordinates the work of crews to perform maintenance activities based on the local work plan, in compliance with company safety rules.
Assists in making recommendations by monitoring employee performance for coaching, rewards and disciplinary actions to address complaints and resolve problems.
Directs and coordinates local emergency response and responds to road closures or incidents as needed.
Creates safe Maintenance of Traffic (M.O.T) control by setup and removal of traffic control devices including cones, message/arrow boards, temporary signage, etc.
Must be comfortable working from heights in bucket trucks, scaffolding, ladders and aerial platforms lifts.
Basic maintenance and repair of structures and equipment rooms including portals, railings, expansion joints, doors, and painting as required.
Repairs/maintains functionality of roadway catch basins, sumps and pumps, fire hydrants and other mechanical assets using hand or power tools.
Repairs/maintains functionality of equipment room ventilation systems.
Repairs/maintains basic electrical systems including emergency telephones, CCTV systems, electronic traffic signs, call boxes, lane signals, lighting.
Transports crew and equipment to work sites using large trucks and specialized motor vehicles and trailers.
Available for emergency response rotations as needed, including overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Maintain and repair highway and other surfaces including potholes, striping, reflectors, concrete and asphalt work.
Creates safe traffic control by setup and removal of devices as above.
Maintains clean appearance of highways and medians through litter and debris removal and disposal.
Repairs/maintains slopes, berms, culverts, drains, etc. and controls vegetation growth using appropriate tools.
Maintains appearance and functionality of signs, guardrails, fences and lighting through repair or replacement.
Keep roadways free of debris including ice and snow using removal or sanding equipment.
Transports crew and equipment to work sites using pickup trucks and specialized vehicles.
Available for emergency response rotations as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Demonstrated knowledge of underground infrastructure maintenance.
Practice safe work methods to minimize accidents and injuries.
Identify hazards and adjust work practices to avoid loss or injury.
Wears Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the job.
Effective written and verbal communication with co-workers and supervisors.
Basic math and ability to understand instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures.
Willingness to work flexible hours to meet business needs and travel as required by the role.
High attention to detail and ownership of responsibilities.
Basic knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in concrete, asphalt repair, construction and maintenance.
Skill in use and care of small hand tools.
Ability to interface with the public professionally.

Education And Experience

HS Diploma or GED (Required)
One (1) year work experience in infrastructure, maintenance, and repair (Preferred)
A valid driver license and a good driving record required to operate a company vehicle.
CDL, DOT certifications, Electrical and Welding Certifications (Highly Desirable)

Work Conditions/Physical Demands

Physical Demands
The employee is regularly required to stand; sit; walk; use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. Use manual and powered tools and equipment. Vision requirements include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to pass fit test for respirator as required. Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
Work Environment
Routinely exposed to traffic and outside weather conditions including extreme heat and cold. Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles. Frequent exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals; insects and infrequent exposure to reptiles/rodents. Noise level usually moderate but can be higher.
