Position Summary
The Mechanical Technician performs work involving the skills of two or more maintenance or craft occupations to keep machines, mechanical equipment, and facility systems in proper operating condition. This position supports both corrective and preventive maintenance efforts to ensure operational continuity and minimize downtime.
Job Responsibilities
Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment
Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure machines operate smoothly and building systems remain functional
Inspect drives, motors, belts, and fluid systems and replace filters or perform maintenance tasks according to established checklists
Use tools ranging from standard hand and power tools to precision measuring instruments and electrical testing devices
Assemble, install, and repair wiring, electrical components, piping systems, plumbing, machinery, and related equipment
Inspect, operate, and test machinery to diagnose malfunctions and determine corrective action
Record maintenance activity including type and cost of repair work
Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other machinery components
Dismantle equipment to access defective parts using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools
Skills and Qualifications
Strong analytical and problem solving ability
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Detail oriented team player with strong work ethic
Working knowledge of machines and tools including design, repair, and maintenance applications
Basic understanding of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and cost awareness in manufacturing environments
Foundational knowledge of applied engineering science and mechanical technology principles
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED required
Two to four years of maintenance or mechanical experience required
