HVAC Technician
The HVAC Technician is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing large‑scale commercial HVAC and domestic hot water systems that serve a diverse university campus. This role performs preventive and predictive maintenance, advanced troubleshooting, and complex repairs to ensure reliable, year‑round operation of critical building systems. The Technician also performs minor equipment installations and supports system upgrades. A strong working knowledge of Federal, State, and local mechanical and electrical codes is essential to ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance.
Work Schedule
Standard working hours: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
Willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed
Participation in an on‑call rotation (after‑hours, weekend, and hazardous‑weather call‑backs)
Job Duties
Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on commercial HVAC, domestic hot water, and system controls.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment and system problems to restore proper operation.
Supervise temporary or seasonal employees assisting with minor maintenance.
Plan and coordinate work, acting as liaison with contractors and facilities teams when necessary.
Act as a point of contact for emergency repairs and other related duties as required.

Minimum Required Education and Experience
Job‑related accreditation from a technical school or equivalent skilled trades program.
Two or more years of job‑related experience (may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience).
Required Certification and Credentials
Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of certified controls experience (e.g., Trane, Metasys, Siemens).
Two years of Daikin certification.
Five years of experience or trade school/apprenticeship; Journeyman card helpful.
Knowledge of HVAC controls, BAS, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
Experience with large‑scale commercial HVAC systems, hydronic heating and cooling, boilers, chillers, and associated controls.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of safety practices relevant to HVAC.
Knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, and hydronics used in HVAC.
Skill with trade tools and equipment.
Ability to perform emergency and general repairs and adjustments.
Ability to work effectively in a service‑oriented environment with changing priorities.
Problem‑solving and good judgment.
Understanding and application of University and Departmental policies.
Basic computer proficiency.
Ability to comprehend blueprints and plans.
Effective communication skills.
Independent judgment and initiative for routine work.
