The Role
Research, plan, design, and develop mechanical products and systems—such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, and thermal-hydraulic components—for production, measurement, and energy use. Apply research to the design, development, and testing of mechanical or electromechanical systems.
Perform dynamic structural (shock) analyses using finite element analysis (FEA) software such as FEMAP, NASTRAN, Abaqus, or Hypermesh; conduct hand calculations and develop engineering calculation reports.
Analyze transient, underwater explosion, and related projects, with opportunities for technical growth.
Eventual SECRET clearance will be required.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program and at least 2 years of relevant exempt experience.
Master’s Degree preferred; zero years of experience may be considered if other qualifications are met.
Nice to Have
Experience with Shock Engineering and Advanced Analysis across CVN, Special Projects, VCS, and SSNX platforms.
Knowledge of mechanical and structural response and design requirements for surface ships or submarines.
Basic familiarity with FEA software (FEMAP, Hypermesh, or Abaqus). Ability to learn legacy programs such as FORTRAN, MATLAB, or Python.
Proactive problem‑solving skills and ability to advance projects through senior engineer consultation.
