Duties Description
Oversees, directs and reviews the activities of a crew of journey-level mechanics; and ensures conformance with safety standards.
Provides supervision to mechanics performing repair and overhaul jobs. Assists and guides staff through oral and written instructions and demonstrates proper methods and techniques to accomplish tasks.
Provides technical assistance in matters of parts identification and procurement; will be responsible for maintaining, ordering and stocking motor equipment parts and supplies for the Bear Mountain Garage.
Recommends changes in equipment maintenance shop operating procedures to improve work performance, the utilization of tools and equipment, and working conditions.
Inspects and road tests new vehicles and equipment to ensure compliance with contract specifications.
The Maintenance Supervisor 1 may also perform the duties of a Service & Repair Mechanic; perform skilled mechanical work in automotive repair in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of gasoline, diesel-powered, and alternative fuel self-propelled and non-self propelled motor‑driven equipment.
The Maintenance Supervisor 1 may also perform routine maintenance and mechanical repairs on disabled vehicles, construction, and other equipment in the field.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
One year of trade experience subsequent to the completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience such as that required for a Trades Specialist (Carpenter), Trades Specialist (Electrician), Service and Repair Mechanic (Electronics), Trades Generalist, Grounds Construction Supervisor, Trades Specialist (Locksmith), Trades Specialist (Machinist), Trades Specialist (Mason and Plasterer), Service and Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment), Trades Specialist (Painter), Trades Specialist (Plumber and Steamfitter), Service and Repair Mechanic (HVAC‑R), Trades Specialist (Roofing), or Trades Specialist (Welder).
Reassignment Qualifications
Current NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Employees only, with at least one year of permanent or contingent‑permanent qualifying service as a Maintenance Supervisor 1.
Additional Comments
Must possess or obtain a valid NYS Class “B” CDL license with a tow endorsement during the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
Must have knowledge of worksite and job zone safety requirements, as well as standard procurement practices.
Must be available for emergency response for storm cleanup and other disaster relief readiness activities.
Must possess excellent communication skills for employee and customer/visitor relations.
Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The incumbent is required to participate in pre‑employment, random and post‑accident drug and alcohol testing.
Location Pay
The hiring rate will be the sum of the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 14 ($56,506) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,000). The job rate will be the sum of the statutory job rate ($68,630) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,000).
