
MED TECH - BS - EVENINGS

Education
Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, Biology or Chemistry required.
Certification
Certification by ASCP or other nationally recognized certification agency (acceptability of the certifying agency to be determined by the Administrative Director).
Certification must be maintained during employment with John D. Archbold Medical Center.
Experience
Prefer a minimum of one year's experience as a general Medical Technologist.
As deemed necessary to be in accordance with certification by the Georgia Department of Human Resources.
Required Skills
Must possess the appropriate level of skill and knowledge for laboratory areas including, but not limited to hematology, clinical microscopy, immunology, microbiology, chemistry, immunohematology, specimen collection, specimen processing, results reporting, quality assurance, and laboratory safety.
Must have the ability to combine the characteristics of a supervisor and bench technologist while maintaining workload and workflow throughout all areas of the laboratory.
Ability to effectively communicate through verbal and written means.
Ability to work independently and to interact professionally with patients, staff, physicians, co-workers, and other hospital department employees.
Must have a high degree of integrity, initiative, and self-organization, and to make medical and technical judgments as required, with and/or without supervisory assistance.
Physical Demands
Good physical and mental health, ability with no limitations to lift, pull, bend, push, and walk moderate distances and sit for long periods using proper body mechanics, visual acuity (with corrective lenses, if required) to read printed material and visualize objects, visual acuity to detect changes in color, hearing ability (with auditory aids, if required) to understand speech in a normal speaking voice, speaking ability to ask and answer pertinent questions and relay information, ability to work under stressful conditions and situations, ability to work under close supervision or independently as required.
Possibility of exposure to potentially hazardous materials, possibility of having to lift objects up to 30 lbs.
Supervises
Medical Laboratory Technicians, Laboratory Aides and Assistants and Phlebotomy Personnel when requested by management personnel.
