Position Summary
Working under moderate to minimal supervision, perform manufacturing procedures for the production of bacterial antigens in accordance with Process Worksheets, Standard Operating Procedures and USDA and Zoetis policies and guidelines. Maintain proper documentation and records in accordance with cGMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) principles. Maintain a safe work environment as well demonstrate reliability in attendance. Demonstrate good communication skills using verbal, non-verbal and written skills. Utilize mechanical skills to maintain equipment and identify mechanical problems.
Hours
2nd Shift, Sunday - Thursday, 2:00pm - 10:30pm. Overtime and holiday work may be required.
Position Responsibilities
Set up and operation of fermentors, centrifuge, concentrators, and various filtration equipment.
Perform routine in-process testing using various instruments such as pH meters, spectrophotometers, microscopes, and filter integrity testers.
Perform media weigh and preparation processes to support fermentation process.
Prepare and sterilize (autoclave) ancillary equipment and media components to support daily processes.
Clean, prep and steam sterilize portable tanks used in the production process.
Perform routine cleaning and disinfection of manufacturing space and equipment per established procedures.
Comply with cGMP practices and documentation.
Perform material handling with hand and powered moving equipment.
Perform minor maintenance on fermentation and downstream processing equipment.
Inform Team Leader of shop floor issues, concerns, and possible solutions.
Demonstrate good housekeeping practices.
Demonstrate safe work habits and maintain a safe work environment. Understand and comply with safety SOPs and procedures (Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) guidelines, Near Miss, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), biohazard training, Monthly Safety training, etc.)
Work with maintenance and engineering to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
Demonstrate the ability to perform mathematical calculations and metric conversions.
Learn and assist in the completion of documentation including process worksheets and log sheets.
Demonstrate reliability in attendance and punctuality.
Perform other duties as assigned by Team Leader.
Education and Experience
High school graduate or equivalent required.
Job grade entry level commensurate to prior experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Four years of college with a bachelor's degree in science, or Business Administration, or four years of supervisory experience. Minimum of 4 yrs. experience in a manufacturing environment. Knowledge of PC using window-based applications.
Technical Skills and Competencies Required
Minimum qualifications include:
Ability to understand written and verbal directions.
Ability to communicate effectively with peers and leadership.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Ability to effectively use basic math applications (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
Ability to document accurately and legibly using cGMP principles.
Preferred qualifications include:
Undergraduate degree or courses in biological sciences
Demonstrated technical understanding of fermentor and downstream processing equipment.
Proficient in aseptic technique
Prior experience in a biological manufacturing setting
Physical Position Requirements
Exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, noise, live steam, temperature fluctuations, biohazards, continuous standing and lifting to a maximum of 50 lbs.
Overtime and holiday work may be required.
The US base wage range for this full-time position is $19.92 /hour - $28.64 /hour. Our wage ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the base pay target range for new hire salaries for the position.
