Oversee the construction process and staff for various projects, including buildings, roads, and bridges.

Responsibilities

Receive broad guidance relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters; provide direction on highly complex assignments; apply extensive engineering knowledge and review staff work for quality assurance.

Assist with the marketing of the firm’s capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships.

Provide guidance, leadership, and training to the inspection team.

Communicate with clients, contractors, and staff on various construction projects.

Coordinate with stakeholders.

Read and interpret complex contract documents.

Oversee projects to ensure that work is executed on time, on budget, and in accordance with the client’s requirements and company policies and procedures.

Provide work assignments and review performance to ensure efficient, cost‑effective utilization of staff.

Facilitate and chair pre‑construction and construction progress meetings.

Manage activities such as layout, inspection, documentation, and pay estimates.

Resolve design and field issues.

Review monthly contractor pay estimates and recommend approval.

Proactively monitor traffic control and protection.

Coordinate and monitor materials testing.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.

Registered Professional Engineer in the applicable state.

Ten or more (10+) years of professional engineering experience.

Demonstrated success as a Resident Engineer on major transportation projects.

Applicable DOT certification required.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Physical Demands and Working Environment

Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright or dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.

Mobility around an office environment.

Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Partial outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.

Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling, and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Primarily local travel during the business day; some out‑of‑area and overnight travel may be required.

Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
