*Henning Ambulance Service Policies *
* *Roles and Responsibilities of the EMT:* Provide emergency care to sick and injured patients within the scope of practice and variances put in place by the Medical Director.
* EMT’s are given a pager and portable radio. Please keep these clean and charged at all times. If there is a malfunction, please bring this to the ambulance directors.
* EMT’s are expected to respond in a timely manner (within 5 minutes) to the ambulance garage. If a train delays response time, please radio to dispatch that you are delayed by a train, and when the train is clear. If there are vehicle issues or inclement weather, notify your partner immediately; and if you cannot make it to the garage within the 5 minutes, have your partner pick you up in private car or with the ambulance. If you can not make the call due to whatever reasons, immediately inform your partner and call dispatch to page out for another EMT.
* EMTs are to help maintain the cleanliness of the ambulance after each call. The crew compartment is to be kept clean from used gloves and masks, beverage and food waste. All equipment is to be sanitized using appropriate wipes. (This includes stretcher and straps, backboards, stairchair, reusable splints, monitor and cables.) *Monitor, glucometer, medications and all other supplies are to be restocked to PAR levels after each call.*
* The patient compartment needs to be swept and mopped out when becoming soiled.
* The outside of the ambulance is to be kept clean, free from bugs, mud, and salt.
* Crew members are to help maintain garage cleanliness and laundry.
* Portable and main oxygen tanks need to be checked after calls to ensure that they are not empty and above 700 psi. If a tank is found at 700 psi, change the tank out and place in designated storage area.
* Appearance: *EMT’s are to maintain a professional appearance at all times. Proper attire includes clean jeans or EMS pants, Henning ambulance shirt, sweatshirt, or jacket. EMT’s need to wear appropriate footwear, no high heels or flip flops are to be worn. * If responding to a second rig call, non-Henning ambulance attire is permitted, however, no swim wear is allowed.
* *We represent the city of Henning and need to remain and appear professional at all times.*
* No Henning ambulance attire should be worn while off duty and consuming alcohol.
* Meetings and Training: Meetings are held at 6pm, the 3rdThursday of every month, unless otherwise specified. *An EMT must attend one meeting quarterly. Annual variance training is Mandatory to remain licensed to give variance medications. *
Continuing education may be held at each monthly meeting and/or at quarterly training. These hours are for continuing education and will be added to the NREMT website, unless an individual wishes otherwise.
* All other individual training from outside sources, conferences, etc. will be added by the EMT to their own account.
* EMT’s need to remain vigilant and up to date on their training needs. If more hours are needed before recertification deadline, please see the training officer.
* If you cannot make a meeting, please ask about other options, such as Teams meeting or Zoom.
* Henning ambulance does have sleeping quarters as well, if that is something to help you and your schedule.
