Job Description
The Mechanical Drafter supports the development of a state‑of‑the‑art minimally invasive device for prostate cancer therapy by creating, updating, and checking detailed mechanical drawings and documentation in SolidWorks and PDM. This role focuses on preparing high‑quality component and assembly drawings, managing design data in the PDM vault, and collaborating closely with the mechanical engineering team to translate engineering concepts and redlines into accurate, manufacturable documentation.
Responsibilities
Check parts, drawings, and assemblies in and out of the PDM vault and ensure all design data remains accurate and current.
Fill out component and assembly data cards in the PDM system with complete and correct information.
Create detailed component and assembly drawings in SolidWorks that support manufacturing and inspection.
Develop and maintain bill of materials (BOM) tables for assemblies, ensuring all items are correctly listed and structured.
Create exploded views and drawing views that clearly communicate assembly relationships and manufacturing intent.
Add balloons, notes, and callouts to drawings to clearly identify parts, processes, and special requirements.
Apply appropriate dimensioning and tolerancing practices to ensure parts can be manufactured and assembled correctly.
Check drawings for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with internal standards and engineering requirements.
Incorporate engineering redlines and document change orders into existing drawings and models in a timely and precise manner.
Support the design of custom fixtures and components for 3D printing, machining, injection molding, and stamping as needed.
Collaborate closely with mechanical engineers and other team members to clarify requirements and resolve design or documentation issues.
Use CAD tools and PDM workflows to maintain organized, traceable, and revision‑controlled design documentation.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in SolidWorks for creating component and assembly models and drawings.
Experience with SolidWorks PDM Vault or similar product data management systems.
Strong mechanical drafting and design skills, including creating detailed 2D drawings from 3D models.
Ability to apply proper dimensioning and geometric tolerancing practices on drawings.
Experience working with redlines and implementing document change orders in CAD and documentation.
Familiarity with designing or detailing components for manufacturing processes such as 3D printing, machining, injection molding, and stamping.
Attention to detail and accuracy when checking and revising drawings and documentation.
Ability to work collaboratively with a mechanical engineering team in a design and drafting environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
SolidWorks certification is a strong plus.
Medical device experience is desirable but not required.
Open to recent graduates or individuals who have recently completed relevant technical education.
Ability to learn quickly and adapt to evolving design requirements and processes.
Strong communication skills to discuss design details and documentation changes with engineers and team members.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Maple Grove, MN.
Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $51.00/hr.
