About The Job
The Analytical Chemist conducts research, analysis, synthesis, and experimentation on substances for such purposes as product and process development and application, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and improvement of analytical methodologies by performing the following duties. Travel is not required. This position has no personnel management responsibilities and reports to the Director Corporate Quality Assurance. The normal shift is 40 hours per week in the office with periodic extended hours as needed. This position may be assigned to other duties as determined by the Supervisor.

Essential Functions

Routine analysis in laboratory using sophisticated analytical equipment (Gas Chromatography, titration systems, moisture meters)

Maintains quality records for quality control of analytical methods

Conducts research on manufactured products to develop and improve products

Conducts research into composition, structure, properties, relationships, and reactions of matter

Prepare technical papers and reports for supervisors and/or management

Prepares standards and specifications for processes for various flavors and raw materials for manufacturing

Advise Manager and/or Regulatory Affairs of any issues identified through scope of work

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree (B. S. preferred in Biology or Chemistry) from four-year college or university required

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers.

Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

The individual should possess the technical knowledge, such as commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the tobacco industry and in the "wet chemistry" laboratory. Hands‑on experience in these areas is preferred. Must possess proficiency in investigative skills and troubleshooting, excellent technical writing skills, data evaluation trending, and statistical analysis.

Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment

Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word Processing software

Ability to work independently in a highly organized manner

Ability to handle chemicals in a safe mannerAbility to work in PPE, stand for long periods of time, and lift approx. 50lbs

General awareness knowledge of the ISO9001 Quality Management System requirements, company Quality Policy and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)

Capable of working and comprehending multiple software programs of laboratory equipment

Responsible for being knowledgeable of and acting in strict accordance with the requirements of all relevant laws, regulations, and Company policies, including, among other areas, Food and Drug Administration regulations
