Position Overview
An Asphalt Plant Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of all mechanical equipment within the plant. The selected candidate will work in a team environment with co‑workers and managers.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
Properly follow all company policies and OSHA / MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
Report any problems to your manager.
Follow directions of manager as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project.
Repair all components involved in ready‑mix processing equipment.
Maintain and operate field service truck.
Follow proper lockout / tag‑out procedures.
Work on projects with company maintenance crew and contractors.
Provide basic tools for welding and fabrication/hand tools for millwright work.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must be able to work weekends.
Pass pre‑employment drug screen and criminal background check.
Pass a pre‑employment "Fit for Work" physical.
Provide valid documentation for the I‑9 immigration document.
Display a professional and courteous attitude to co‑workers, supervisors and the public at all times.
Report to work at the designated start time.
Be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
Be able to work overtime when required.
Be willing to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
Have willingness to work in a team environment and assist co‑workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and / or MSHA.
Be at least age 18 years of age due to nature of working environment.
Education / Experience
Minimum high school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
2 years related experience is preferred.
Knowledge / Skill Requirements
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Certifications
Must have a valid driver’s license (CDL is a plus).
Work Environment
The work environment includes wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; and extreme cold and/or heat. Noise levels are usually moderate.
