Position Overview
The Bike CoOp Associate will support SNCW’s youth active transportation programming and the development and operation of its bike repair community space. This position will work closely with the Bike CoOp Manager to help deliver youth bike education programming, support community workshops, maintain equipment and supplies, and assist with the organization and readiness of SNCW’s community bike repair space.

This role is ideal for someone who is organized, dependable, comfortable working with youth and community members, and strongly interested in bicycle repair, active transportation, and community-based sustainability work.

Reporting to the Executive Director and working under the day‑to‑day supervision of the Bike CoOp Manager, the Bike CoOp Associate will:

Key Responsibilities

Support, with training, lead some of the afterschool bike education programming for middle and high school youth

Assist with community workshops focused on bike repair and bike safety

Help prepare, transport, organize, and maintain bikes, tools, parts, and safety gear

Support the setup, organization, and readiness of SNCW’s bike repair community space

Assist with bike and parts intake, inventory, and basic repair workflows

Support volunteers and participants in a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment

Help carry out outreach, logistics, and operational tasks that support SNCW’s bike‑related programming

Afterschool Bike Education (60% of time)
Program Delivery & Support

Assist the Bike CoOp Manager with the delivery of youth bike education programming for middle and high school students

After training, lead bike education sessions regularly

Help prepare materials, bikes, tools, and safety gear for classes and activities

Support students during bike repair, maintenance, and riding activities

Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

Assist with program setup, breakdown, and site logistics

Help transport (including driving the truck and trailer on occasion) and organize bikes, tools, and supplies between storage and program sites as needed

Support day‑to‑day operational consistency by following established workflows and safety procedures

Youth & Volunteer Support

Help welcome and engage students in a positive and encouraging way

Support volunteers and assistant instructors as directed by the Bike CoOp Manager

Communicate participant needs, supply issues, or safety concerns to the Bike CoOp Manager

Program Logistics & Documentation

Help track attendance, organize participant materials, and support basic recordkeeping

Assist with equipment checks, inventory updates, and maintenance needs

Support the documentation of program activities, supply needs, and workflow improvements

Community Bike Repair Space (40% of time)
Space Organization & Readiness

Assist with the setup and organization of the bike repair community space, including workbenches, bike stands, tools and parts storage, and shared work areas

Help maintain a clean, organized, safe, and welcoming repair space at the Community Annex

Support operational readiness for volunteer‑ and public‑facing programming

Help prepare the space for workshops, volunteer work parties, and future public use

Bikes, Tools & Parts

Assist with organizing, cleaning, and maintaining tools, bikes, parts, and shop supplies

Help with intake of donated bikes and parts using established systems

Assist with assembly of refurbished bikes using salvaged and new components to grow inventory for community distribution

Support inventory tracking and labeling of tools, parts, and repair materials

Perform basic bike maintenance and repair tasks appropriate to skill level and training

Flag repair, maintenance, supply, or safety issues for follow‑up by the Bike CoOp Manager

Workshops & Community Support

Assist with community bike repair and bike safety workshops at the Community Annex and partner sites

Help participants feel welcome and supported during workshops and repair activities

Support workshop flow as directed by the Bike CoOp Manager

Assist with preparation and cleanup before and after events, workshops, and community programming

Additional Duties

Support other education, outreach initiatives as needed

Participate in staff meetings, training, and organizational events

Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and community‑centered team culture

Support other projects as requested by the Executive Director

Desired Qualifications
Required / Strongly Preferred

Strong interest in bicycles, bike repair, active transportation, and/or community‑based sustainability work

Experience working with youth, volunteers, or community members in a supportive or educational setting

Basic bicycle repair knowledge, or willingness to learn quicklyStrong organizational skills and attention to detail

Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively as part of a team

Dependable, punctual, and comfortable with hands‑on physical work

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Commitment to creating an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming environment for participants of varied backgrounds and skill levels

High School diploma or equivalent

Clean driving record

Ability to pass a background check

Helpful / Preferred

Experience with bike maintenance or repair

Experience supporting classes, workshops, camps, or afterschool programming

Experience with inventory, tools, shop organization, or equipment management

Bilingual or multilingual communication skills, especially Spanish and English

Experience working in nonprofit, community‑based, or educational settings

Experience driving a truck and trailer

Associate’s degree

Physical & Scheduling Expectations

Ability to lift and move bikes, bike parts, tools, and program supplies with reasonable accommodation (up to 50 lbs)

Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in active shop or program environments for extended periods

Ability to work some evenings and weekends based on program and event needs

Ability to travel locally between SNCW sites, schools, and partner locations as needed

Work is primarily in a shop space and around school visits, outdoor activities, and hands‑on bike riding and repair instruction. A small amount of office work may be needed.

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly rate of $23/hour.

Flexible schedule to be determined with the Bike CoOp Manager, with the majority of work between the hours of 9am to 6pm with some evening or weekend work. Evening workshops and Saturday morning events are somewhat frequent.
